CONCORD, N.H.- For the first time in nearly 4 decades officials in the Granite state report that 100 bald eagle chicks have hatched and flew from their nests this year.
The news comes as the New Hampshire Audubon has been monitoring the state’s bald eagle population since 1989.
In the 1980s, New Hampshire had one successful breeding pair of bald eagles, according to data from NH Audubon. In 2026, 85 pairs of bald eagles incubated eggs around the state.
Officials point to the banning of DDT for the resurgence of bald eagles in the State. DDT was widely used throughout the 1960s and 1970s driving bald eagles to the brink of extinction.
