CONCORD, N.H.- Lawmakers, supporters and opponents turned out Wednesday to speak on a proposed amendment to the state’s Constitution that would outlaw a state income tax.
A crowd of about 100 residents waited more than 2 hours to speak their mind, while an influx of Republican lawmakers spoke in favor of the legislation.
If approved the proposed legislation would head to the ballot for voters to decide.
Last month House lawmakers voted along party lines for the change which fell short of the 60% majority needed to send an amendment to voters.
The House Ways and Means Committee Wednesday heard testimony on an identical provision House Majority Leader Jason Osborne proposed to replace a constitutional amendment that the Senate passed last February which would ban the adoption of an income, sales or capital gains tax.
