BELMONT, N.H.- Police are currently investigating what’s being called a hoax following a call received Sunday, when an induvial answering to the name “The Reaper” told police they had taken a pair of hostages, and said that there were bombs planted near Lake Winnisquam that would go off unless a ransom was paid.

According to police the caller said they were holding two people against their will on a boat near Mosquito Bridge and one of them had been killed. The caller also told police that an accomplice planted bombs on boats near the local Marina

Police ended up taking the threat seriously when the caller identified certain aspects of the area that were in fact true.

A search of the area by officers from Belmont and officers from a number of other departments proved the threat was not creditable.

News of this hoax comes as other departments across the country have reported similar instances where someone calling themselves “the reaper” made similar to calls as officials in Belmont say they’re working with federal authoriites to get further answers.
