CONCORD, N.H.- Concord’s Board of Education has approved a $124 million budget that not only increases local property taxes but also will require the district to eliminate close to 40 positions.

Wednesday evening the Board approved the budget that’s almost the same as last years but leaves homeowners with a 12.2% increase in property taxes, which amounts to about $1.81 per $1,000. The move comes as the district deals with a $17 million deficit.

The budget will also require the district to eliminate 38 positions however officials say strong talks over cuts to the arts will result in a teacher splitting their time between the Rundlett Middle School and Concord High School.

As for an increase in athletic fees School Board officials say the topic remains under discussion.
