CONCORD, N.H.- House lawmakers Wednesday heard from both sides regarding a bill that would create a 20-week ban on abortions in the Granite State and create further restrictions to the current standards.

According to the bill’s sponsor Rep. Kevin Scully, R-Nashua the new time frame would align with the state’s definition of personhood. Scully told the House Judiciary Committee the main focus of his bill wasn’t about abortion rights, but civil rights, as he said it would ensure that an unborn fetus would gain the same protections in the abortion bans as it would when inside the womb of a mother who’s been killed.

Those in opposition pushed back, saying lawmakers should stay out of the pratice of medicine.

However the bill’s future doesn’t look promising, as Gov.Kelly Ayotte has gone on the record and said she supports the current law and would veto any attemp to impose further restricitions to it.
