CONCORD, N.H.- Lawmakers return to the State House Wednesday for Veto Day to address close to 30 bills.

Among the bills which could get a second chance at life are a turnpike toll increase, a ban on biological males in women’s safe spaces, giving those convicted of a crime additional time to seek a new trial and the loosening of some animal cruelty laws.

Wednesday’s return to the Legislature breaks away from the prior norm of waiting until the fall to hold Veto Day, a move implemented by House Speaker Sherman Packard, who wanted everyone back early due to the fact some of the bills are directly related to some larger issues.

So far this year, Governor Kelly Ayotte has vetoed 33 bills, which is the most in modern history for a governor with a legislature of the same party.
