MANCHESTER,N.H.- The Board of School committee has scheduled a public hearing to discuss ways to close the $12.9 millon funding gap.
Monday evening the board will review a plan proposed by Superintedenent of Schools Jennifer Chmiel that we see the reduction of 41 full-time employee vacancies that wouldn’t be filled. The proposal also calls for the district to spend less on supplies in the next fiscal year and use $1.5 million from the district’s Teaching and Learning Trust.
Officials note however that the propsal maintains the current athletics programing and the 1.4 mile walk-out for student transportation mandating that those students who live within a 1.4 mile raduis of their school would be required to provide their own transportation.
The district’s need to close the gap comes after the board approved a $238.4 million budget for the next fiscial year which comes in less than the district backed budget of $251.4 million.
The public hearing scheduled for June 22, at City Hall gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
