SARGENT’S PURCHASE, N.H.- Fish & Game officials say a Topsfield, Massachusetts man hiking with friends who injured his leg along Tuckerman Ravine Trail “hopped, crawled and otherwise used sheer grit and determination” to try and reach the summit of Mt. Washington before being rescued.
According to officials around 3 p.m. Tuesday Fish and Game received a call for a hiker who was about a half mile from the summit of Mt. Washington hurt his lower leg and couldn’t put any weight on it. However, the group of eight people helped the 18-year-old man try to reach the summit before they meet rescuers the group about .3 miles from the summit.
Once on scene First responders splintered the man’s leg and helped him down the auto road, but when given the opportunity to be taken to a hospital the man refused and said he would seek care back in Massachusetts.
