MANCHESTER, N.H.- The Granite State has joined 42 other states as part of a coalition that’s reached a settlement with the bankruptcy trustee overseeing the affairs of genetic testing company 23&Me, out of allegations from a data breach that officials say compromised the genetic data of 6.9 million customers worldwide.

The settlement reportedly includes $150 million in allowed claims for states, but officials note that due to a finite amount of funds in the bankruptcy estate and a growing number of claims, an amount of only $18 million will be paid out immediately.

23&Me has also agreed to a proposed class-action bankruptcy settlement worth $6.75 million which would provide relief to those US customers affected who submitted claims before the February 2026 deadline.

The move comes after the genetic testing company announced in October of 2023 it discovered a data break which impacted 6.9 million customers, which includes 31,192 here in New Hampshire
