MANCHESTER, N.H.- Crews will be using rolling roadblocks this week in order to paint new stripes at the Bedford tolls in preparation for the removal of tollbooths.
According to Department of Transportation officials the work will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting.
Officials from DOT note that the new stripes will shift traffic to the outside lanes of the Everett Turnpike in both directions so that the remaining center portion of the tollbooths can be removed.
The work is the latest step in the state’s $16 million dollar project to replace the tollbooths with all-electronic tolling which officials say will allow traffic to continue at high speeds while also charging motorists.
