CONCORD, N.H.- The state has dropped its case against Victor Malavet, 63, the Gilford man accused of raping a 15-year-old girl while working at the Youth Detention Services Unit in Concord back in the early 2000s.

The decision comes after two previous trials against Malavet, ended in hung juries with the state opting not to pursue a third.

Following the decision the Attorney General’s Office issued a statement explaining how they remain committed to helping YDC victims and came to the decision not to move forward after reviewing the case and evidence with the alleged victim Natasha Maunsell.

Speaking on the about the state’s decision Maunsell tells the Union Leader she’s left with no sense of justice.

Maunsell, choose to confront Malavet publicly and identified herself to the media and claimed that Malavet befriended her between June and November of 2001 and gave her special privileges before sexually assaulting her in rooms only accessible to staff.

It should be noted that Manchester Media Group does not actively seek to identify victims of assault, however published Maunsell’s name after she decided to come forward and comment on the matter.
