Union St Fire kills one and leaves dozens homeless

MANCHESTER, N.H.- On person is dead, several others were injured, and dozens are homeless after a fire tore through an apartment building early Thursday morning.

Fire officials say crews responded to a call for a fire at the Executive Manor apartments on Union Street just after 12:30.

Once on scene Fire fighters worked to help residents already in the process of evacuating and were met with flames coming from the third and fourth floors which stretched to the roof.

A search of the fourth floor resulted in crews discovering an unresponsive man in a hallway and a child in a bedroom; however, officials note that the unidentified man later died at an area hospital. As for the child officials say they were taken to a Boston-area hospital with critical injuries.

Several other people were also injured; however the extent of their injuries remains unknown at the moment.

Officials say approximately 50 people and about 10 families were displaced by the fire and are currently receiving aid from outside services.

As for a cause Fire officials say that’s currently under investigation.
